The Montgomery County Police Department Joins Nextdoor

For Immediate Release: Monday, February 13, 2017

The Montgomery County Police Department is joining Nextdoor (www.Nextdoor.com), a free, private social network for your neighborhood.  Nextdoor is an additional platform that the Department, District Commanders, and other Department personnel will use to improve communication with residents.

Police Department personnel will be able to post important information, to include crime alerts, safety information, and community events, to Nextdoor.  Residents can reply to Department posts, forward information, and send private messages to Police Department representatives.

In Nextdoor, each neighborhood has its own webpage, accessible only to residents in that neighborhood.  Police department representatives cannot view the content of neighborhood webpages in Nextdoor.

Please note that Nextdoor is not to be used to request police or emergency services.  Residents need to call 9-1-1 in emergency situations or call the police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000 to report non-emergencies.

Residents can sign up with Nextdoor by visiting the Nextdoor website at www.Nextdoor.com or by downloading the Nextdoor application.  For questions with the Nextdoor website, please visit: www.help.nextdoor.com.

Residents are also encouraged to follow the Police Department on Facebook and on Twitter.  Police Department press releases can be found at www.mymcpnews.com.
