Detectives Charge Gaithersburg Man with Impersonating a Police Officer

For Immediate Release: Monday, March 6, 2017

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged Itai Ozderman, age 35, of the 100 block of Elmira Lane in Gaithersburg, with impersonating a police officer and transporting a handgun in a vehicle.

In February, detectives from the Major Crimes Division learned that Ozderman may be involved in offenses related to impersonating a police officer in Maryland.  Detectives developed probable cause to obtain a search warrant and on February 22, served that warrant at Ozderman’s home.  During the search of the home, detectives located seven handguns, two assault rifles, and a shotgun.  Detectives also located a loaded handgun, body armor, tactical vests, ammunition, and what appeared to be a Baltimore County Police badge inside of a vehicle owned by Ozderman that was parked at the home.  Major Crimes detectives contacted the Baltimore County Police Department and verified that Ozderman was not a police officer and was never employed by the Baltimore County Police Department.

Ozderman was transported to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and charged with one count of impersonating a police officer and one count of transporting a handgun in a vehicle.  Ozderman was released after posting a $10,000 bond.

Detectives believe that Ozderman may have represented himself as a police officer in other instances that have not been reported.  Investigators are urging anyone who has information related to Ozderman impersonating a law enforcement officer to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5100.
