Detectives Investigate Thefts and Attempted Thefts from Vehicles in Germantown – Surveillance Video Released

For Immediate Release: Friday, March 24, 2017

Detectives from the 5th District Patrol Investigations Unit (PIU) continue to investigate the February 22 thefts and attempted thefts from unlocked vehicles that occurred in the Cider Barrel neighborhood in Germantown.  Today, detectives are releasing target="_blank">surveillance video obtained from a home that show three suspects, and are asking for the public’s help to identify them.  The investigation has revealed the following:

  • These incidents occurred during the overnight hours of February 21 into the early morning hours of February 22. The suspects targeted vehicles parked in driveways and on the following roads: Cider Barrel Drive, Weybridge Lane, Regents Park Drive, and Notting Hill Way.
  • It is believed that the suspects targeted unlocked cars because there were no signs of forced entry into any of the vehicles.
In the video being released today, one suspect can be seen approaching two vehicles on Regents Park Drive and trying to open a door on each of the vehicles.  The suspect, after realizing that the doors on each vehicle are locked, then walks away.  Two other suspects wearing backpacks can be seen walking on the street behind the suspect who is attempting to open vehicle doors.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect, or these thefts from vehicles is asked to call the 5th District Patrol Investigations Unit at 240-773-6263.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case.  Tipsters may remain anonymous.

Residents are again reminded to remove all items from their vehicles (to include vehicle keys) and to lock vehicle doors.  As is in these cases, unlocked vehicles become easy targets.
