Detectives Investigate Hate-Based Vandalism in Wheaton

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 4th District Investigative Section are investigating a hate-based vandalism that occurred at a residence in Wheaton.

On Thursday, April 13 at approximately 3:24 p.m., 4th District officers responded to a home in the 2300 block of McMahon Road for the report of a vandalism.  The preliminary investigation by officers revealed that the homeowner left the home in the morning and returned at approximately 3:20 p.m. that afternoon.  Upon returning to the home, the homeowner discovered that a derogatory word had been written in black marker across the front door of the residence.  The victim believes that her race may be the motive for this vandalism.

Anyone with information about this hate-based vandalism is asked to contact the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530.  For those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Solvers of Montgomery County is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of the suspect(s).  Tipsters can call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
