Man Arrested and Charged with Indecent Exposure and Attempted Child Abduction

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, April 19, 2017

Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department’s 3rd District have charged Jemberu Bekele Geda, age 37, of the 11500 block of Lockwood Drive with indecent exposure for an incident involving a juvenile female, and attempted child abduction of two boys under the age of 10.

On Sunday, April 16 at approximately 6:48 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the area of 11550 Stewart Lane in White Oak for the report of an attempted child abduction that had just occurred.

The investigation revealed that two male victims, 8 and 9-year-old cousins, were playing at a neighborhood playground when the suspect, later identified as Geda, approached them.  After approaching the victims, Geda grabbed them by their wrists and attempted to bring them into his apartment.  The victims told Geda that they did not want to go with him and Geda let go of their wrists.   After being released, the victims fled to their nearby home where they immediately told a parent about the incident.  Responding officers also learned that earlier that day, Geda had exposed himself to a 13-year-old female who also lives in the neighborhood.

Responding officers located Geda at his home where he was positively identified as the same suspect who exposed himself to the female victim and who attempted to abduct the male victims.  Geda was arrested and during an interview told officers that he did not know any of the victims and that he grabbed the male victims because he wanted them to come play in his apartment.

Geda was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with one count of indecent exposure and two counts of attempted child abduction.  Geda was ordered held without bond.
