Detectives Seek Public’s Help to Identify Theft Suspects from Bethesda Apple Store; Surveillance Photographs Released

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, May 9, 2017

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 2nd District Investigative Section continue to investigate the March 28 theft of four Apple Macbook Pro laptops from a Bethesda Apple Store. Today, detectives are releasing surveillance photographs of the two suspects and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.

On March 28, at approximately 8:38 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the Apple Store located at 4860 Bethesda Avenue for the report of a theft that had just occurred.  The investigation by detectives determined that the first suspect approached a store employee and inquired about purchasing multiple laptops for a charity.   The employee removed four Macbook Pro laptops from a display area and placed them on a counter for the first suspect to inspect.  The first suspect then distracted the store employee and lured him away from the counter where the four laptops were.  The second suspect then grabbed the four laptops from the counter and fled from the store.  The first suspect exited the Apple Store as an employee attempted to stop the second suspect.

Anyone who has information about the suspects or this theft is asked to call the 2nd District Investigative Section at 240-773-6710. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case.
