For Immediate Release: Thursday, June 1, 2017

Montgomery County Police – 3rd District officers have arrested Aly Badara Sylla, age 26, of the 11400 block of Cherry Hill Road in Beltsville, for the burglary of a White Oak cell phone store.  Sylla was arrested when he returned to the store a few hours after committing the burglary.

On Monday, May 29 at approximately 1:51 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the T-Mobile store located at 11203 New Hampshire Avenue for the report of a commercial burglary alarm at the business.  Responding officers discovered that the front glass window to the business had been shattered by an unknown object but determined that no entry had been made to the business and that nothing had been stolen.

Officers who had responded to the attempted burglary at the T-Mobile store discovered that the Sprint store located at 11213 New Hampshire Avenue had also been burglarized.  A Sprint employee was notified of the burglary to the store and provided officers with surveillance photographs of the suspect.

As officers were reviewing the surveillance photographs from the Sprint store, the officers observed an individual walking toward the Sprint store who matched the description of the suspect in the photographs.  Officers stopped that individual and identified him as Sylla.  Officers observed broken glass attached to Sylla’s clothing and located an all of the stolen property from the Sprint store inside of Sylla’s coat pockets.  Sylla was arrested and admitted to the burglary during a police interview.

Sylla was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with the attempted burglary of the T-Mobile store and the burglary of the Sprint store.  Sylla is currently being held on a $2,500 bond.
