Detectives Investigate Hate-Based Assault in Rockville

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 1st District Investigative Section are investigating the hate-based assault of an adult male that occurred yesterday afternoon in Rockville.

On Sunday, August 13 at approximately 3:53 p.m., 1st District officers responded to the report of an assault.

The investigation by detectives has revealed that at approximately 2:15 p.m., the victim was walking with his wife on the sidewalk of Rollins Avenue near East Jefferson Street.  The victim stated to detectives that he and his wife were conversing in Arabic and walked past a male standing on the sidewalk.   The victim stated that the suspect made derogatory remarks to the couple regarding Muslims.  The suspect then threatened the victim and assaulted him.  The suspect fled from the area on foot toward Rockville Pike and the victims reported the assault to the police.  The victim suffered minor injuries during the assault and declined medical treatment.  No weapon was used during the assault.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 37 to 43 years old, 5’10” tall, and with a muscular build.  He was wearing a black vest over a white t-shirt and blue jeans.
