MCP Arrest Man Wanted for Washington, D.C. Metro Shooting

Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department – 4^th District Station have arrested Cesar Morales, age 22, of the 1300 block of Newton Street in Northwest, Washington, D.C.  and have charged him as a fugitive from justice from the District of Columbia.  Morales was wanted by the Metropolitan Police Department for the August 25 assault involving a handgun that occurred at the Columbia Heights Metro Station in the District.

Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 5:09 p.m., 4^th District officers responded to the area of the 11100 block of Veirs Mill Road after an alert resident observed a suspect in that area who matched Morales’ description.  The resident called the Emergency Communications Center (911) and told dispatchers that he/she recognized the suspect from media reports and photographs and knew that the suspect was wanted by the Metropolitan Police Department.

An officer who arrived at the scene observed the suspect in the area of 11160 Veirs Mill Road.  The suspect fled on foot toward a nearby parking garage as the officer approached him.  Officers were searching the parking garage for the suspect when a concerned passerby notified an officer that they had observed the suspect hiding under a parked car in the garage.  Officers subsequently located the suspect hiding under a parked vehicle, identified him as Morales, and arrested him without incident.

Morales was transported to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) where he was charged as a fugitive from justice from Washington, D.C.   Morales will undergo an extradition process in Maryland before he can be returned to the District of Columbia.
