Financial Crimes detectives have charged Kim Dashawn Prophet, age 24, of an unconfirmed address, with fraud charges relating to a case involving a 22-year-old male victim with Autism. The Department
released surveillance photos and video of the unknown suspect (now identified as Prophet) in early October. Detectives received approximately a dozen tips from the public providing information on the suspect’s (Prophet’s) identity.
This investigation revealed that Prophet befriended the victim and gained his trust over a period of time. The suspect asked the victim for the victim’s bank account information, which he provided. The suspect then asked to see the victim’s ATM card and stole it.
On August 11, the suspect entered the Navy Federal Credit Union located at 12244 Rockville Pike and posing as the victim, deposited a counterfeit (fake) check into the victim’s account. The check showed the forged signature of the victim. The suspect then went to the branch’s ATM and using the victim’s bank card that he had stolen, withdrew $600.00 from the victim’s account.
Using the tips received from the public, investigators identified Prophet as the suspect in this case. He has been charged with numerous fraud and forgery crimes and obtaining property of a vulnerable adult by deception via a Montgomery County criminal warrant. Prophet is currently in custody at the Arlington County, Virginia, Detention Facility on charges unrelated to this Montgomery County case.
