Detectives Investigate Pedestrian Collision in Rockville

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a collision involving a pedestrian that occurred this evening in Rockville.

On Tuesday, November 7 at approximately 5:26 p.m., officers from the Rockville City Police Department and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of North Washington Street and Dawson Avenue for the report of a pedestrian-involved collision.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2015 Toyota Corolla, driven by Chinthaka Chaturan Amalage Don, age 24, of the 600 block of Diamondback Drive in Gaithersburg, was traveling south on North Washington Street.  A pedestrian, identified as Dena Elise Balistocky, age 57, of the 200 block of North Washington Street in Rockville, was crossing the southbound lanes of North Washington Street in the area of Dawson Avenue when she was struck by the Corolla.

Balistocky was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision, to include Balistocky’s direction of travel, what the traffic signal indicated at the time of the collision, and whether Balistocky was in the area of the crosswalk.
