Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train in Gaithersburg

Update: January 24, 2018 - The victim is being identified as Dwight Nathaniel Demar, age 67, of Chestnut Street in Gaithersburg.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division are investigating the death of an adult male who was fatally struck by a train this afternoon in Gaithersburg.

On Tuesday, January 23 at approximately 1:55 p.m., officers from the 6th District, Gaithersburg Police Department, and Fire and Rescue personnel responded for the report of a pedestrian who had been struck by an Amtrak passenger train on the tracks in the area of South Summit Avenue and Wells Avenue

The initial investigation has revealed that Demar was in the area of the tracks when, for reasons still under investigation, he was struck by an eastbound Amtrak passenger train.  Demar succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
