Suspect Arrested for Hate Biased Incident in Kensington

Montgomery County Police 4th District Community Services Officers have arrested and charged Jerome Want, age 69, of the 1600 block of Langley Drive in Hagerstown, with telephone misuse and harassment of a person because of the person’s race.

On Tuesday, January 23, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers responded to the Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC) located in Kensington, for the report of a person making threatening phone calls. An employee stated an unknown person had called the office on multiple occasions between January 12 and January 18 and during these phone calls made sexual remarks and used racial epithets. This is being classified as a biased motivated incident.

Officers identified the suspect as Jerome Want. Officers obtained a warrant for Want’s arrest and he was taken into custody. He has been released on bond pending his next court date.
