MCP Seeks To Identify Fraud Suspect Who Identified Himself As Police Officer

Officers from the 2nd District are attempting to identify a suspect who attempted to pass a counterfeit (fake) $100 United States bill at a North Bethesda business and identified himself as a police officer when a store employee questioned the suspect about the bill.

On February 11 at approximately 6:00 p.m., the unknown suspect attempted to pay for frozen yogurt at the Sweet Frog located at 11520 Rockville Pike with a $100 bill.  The store employee attempted to determine the authenticity of the bill using a counterfeit detector pen.  The pen indicated that the bill was fake and upon further inspection, the employee noted some irregularities on the currency.  The clerk told the suspect that the money was fake and that he was calling the police.  The suspect then produced what appeared to be a police badge and stated that he was a police officer and would take the bill back.  The employee kept the bill and the suspect ran from the store.
