Detectives Investigate Shooting in Burtonsville

For Immediate Release: Monday, February 26, 2018

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 3rd District Investigative Section are investigating a shooting that occurred this morning in Burtonsville. Investigators believe that this was not a random event and there may be some prior association between the suspect(s) and the victim.

On Monday, February 26 at approximately 8:50 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Station located at 13900 Old Columbia Pike for the report of a 17-year-old male who walked into the fire station and reported that he had been shot.  The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim, a student at Paint Branch High school, stated to investigators that he had been at the high school located at 14121 Old Columbia Pike but left the school to purchase an item at a nearby convenience store.   The victim was walking back to the school when he heard a gunshot and realized that he had been struck.  Detectives determined that the victim suffered a graze wound to his cheek and ear.

This shooting remains an open investigation and detectives are working to confirm additional details.  Those details will be released once they have been confirmed.
