Police Investigate Domestic-Related Homicide; Suspect Arrested

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Major Crimes Division have arrested Shannon Marci Jefferson Lozano, age 22, of the 10500 block of Cascade Place in the Wheaton area, for the first-degree murder of her great-grandmother, 80-year-old Doris Elizabeth Shelton of the same address.

Yesterday, March 23, at approximately 3:19 pm, the victim’s husband called 911 to report that he had come home and found his wife unresponsive and not breathing. Police and Fire & Rescue responded to the residence on Cascade Place and confirmed that the victim was deceased.

The initial investigation by officers at the scene revealed that there was apparent trauma to Shelton’s body. Officers began to investigate the death as a homicide. Shelton’s great- granddaughter, Lozano, was developed as a suspect in the death. A lookout was placed via the police radio for Lozano and Maryland- National Capital Park Police Officers arrested her a short distance from the home.

Major Crimes detectives responded to the scene and began to investigate the homicide. Lozano was interviewed by investigators at Police Headquarters and made a statement implicating herself in the assault of her great-grandmother. Lozano was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with first-degree murder. She is being held without bond.

The victim’s body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm the cause and manner of death.

The circumstances surrounding this homicide remain under investigation. Due to the ongoing investigation, no additional details will be released.
