Detectives Investigate Attempted Robbery of Taxi Driver in Fairland Area; Surveillance Photographs Released

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the February 24 attempted robbery of a taxi driver that occurred in the Fairland area.  Today, investigators are releasing surveillance photographs of the suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

On February 24 at approximately 3:15 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the 13900 block of Castle Boulevard for the report of an attempted robbery of a Barwood taxi driver that had just occurred.

The investigation revealed that the adult male taxi driver picked up the suspect at the Silver Spring Metro Station located at 8400 Colesville Road in Silver Spring.  The suspect stated that he first wanted to be taken to the 7-Eleven store located at 13800 Old Columbia Pike in the Fairland area and then to the 13900 block of Castle Boulevard.  The driver stopped at the 7-Eleven and waited while the suspect went inside the store.  Upon the suspect’s return to the cab, the driver then drove him to the 13900 block of Castle Boulevard.   After arriving to Castle Boulevard, the suspect exited the cab, threatened the taxi driver, and demanded money.  The suspect fled from the taxi without obtaining any currency and was last seen on foot toward the 14000 block of Castle Boulevard.  Investigators later determined that the suspect also stole property from the 7-Eleven store.
