Update: Two Suspects Charged in Bethesda Shooting

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, April 18, 2018

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 2nd District Investigative Section have arrested and charged David Orlando Montalvo, age 23, of an unconfirmed address, and Lucas Austin Graves, age 28, of an unconfirmed address, with attempted murder, assault, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, for the March 9 shooting which occurred in the parking lot of the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda.

At approximately 7:08 pm on Friday, March 9, 2nd District officers responded to a parking lot located at the Westfield Montgomery Mall (7101 Democracy Boulevard) for the report of the sound of shots fired.  Officers located evidence of a shooting to include shell casings and parked vehicles that had been struck by a bullet(s).  No shooting victim(s) were located at that time.

The investigation by detectives determined that two groups comprised of two males each became involved in a verbal argument that appeared to have started off of mall property.  Detectives determined that the verbal argument between the groups then continued to the area of a mall parking lot where the two suspects, now identified as Montalvo and Graves, fired shots at the two adult male victims.  Montalvo, Graves, and the victims then fled from the area.

Through investigation, detectives identified the two and spoke with them about the incident.  Investigators identified Montalvo and Graves as the two suspects who had each fired a handgun at the two victims.

On March 19, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Graves charging him with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.  On April 11, Graves was arrested on the strength of that warrant and is being held without bond.

On April 12, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Montalvo charging him with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.  On April 18, Montalvo was arrested on the strength of that warrant and ordered to be held without bond.
