Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 5th District Investigative Section have charged Edgar Alfonso Borrera, age 26, currently incarcerated at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF) located at 22880 Whelan Lane in Boyds, with the attempted first-degree murder of a correctional officer.

On Sunday, May 6, at approximately 4:58 a.m., a MCCF correctional officer was assaulted by Borrera on an upper tier of the facility in front of the cells.  Borrera repeatedly punched and struck the victim about his face and upper body with a weapon fashioned from hard plastic and a milk carton.  After the assault, another inmate rendered aid to the victim and attempted to contain Borrera by grabbing him.  Other correctional officers responded to assist the victim.

The victim was transported to a hospital with multiple injuries to include fractured bones in his face and lacerations to his forehead.

Detectives located the weapon used by Borrera during the assault and seized it as evidence.

Borrera has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault of a correctional officer.  He is currently incarcerated on unrelated criminal charges.
