Detectives Charge Two Suspects in Murder-for-Hire Scheme

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 23, 2018

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division - Homicide Section have charged two suspects in a murder-for-hire scheme.  44-year-old Karen Diolamou and her boyfriend, 44-year-old Paul Bond, who is currently in the custody of the Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation awaiting trial for a home invasion robbery he committed in Gaithersburg in April, have been charged with conspiring to hire a person to kill a witness to the home invasion robbery that Bond committed.

Investigation by Major Crimes detectives revealed that in early May, Diolamou (also known by her maiden name of Haller) contacted a person known to her and Bond and stated that Bond wanted to find someone who would kill the witness to the home invasion robbery.  Diolamou offered this person an undisclosed amount of cash to kill the witness and provided the person with the witness' name, home address, description of the witness' car, and in what manner Diolamou wanted the witness killed.  This person then notified the Montgomery County Police Department about the solicitation.

Detectives reviewed documented communication records between Diolamou and the person she contacted to murder the witness and documented communication between Diolamou and Bond.  These communication records demonstrated the two suspects' plan to hire someone to murder the witness.

On May 21, Diolamou, of Postage Terrace in Silver Spring, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and solicitation to commit first-degree murder.  During an interview with detectives, Diolamou confessed to her participation in the murder-for-hire scheme.  Diolamou is being held without bond.

Paul Bond, who is currently in jail awaiting trial for charges related to the Gaithersburg home invasion robbery, has also been charged with conspiracy and solicitation to commit first- degree murder.
