Update: Suspect Charged in Domestic-Related Stabbing

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) have arrested and charged Dwight Perry, age 35, of the 700 block of West Side Drive in Gaithersburg, for assault-related charges following a domestic-related stabbing that occurred at his home.  After the stabbing, Perry fled in his vehicle with his 9-year-old son and 18-month-old daughter prompting an Amber Alert to be issued for the two children, Perry, and the vehicle. 

On Tuesday, July 10 at approximately 1:03 p.m., 6^th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Perry’s home for the report of a stabbing that had just occurred.  Responding officers located the adult female victim, Perry’s girlfriend, inside the residence suffering from a non-life-threatening stab wound to her lower back.  The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The victim stated to investigators that Perry had assaulted her and used a knife to stab her in the lower back during an argument which occurred inside the home. After stabbing the victim, Perry took his two children and fled from the area in his vehicle.  Concerned for the safety of the two children, MCP investigators contacted the Maryland State Police who then issued an Amber Alert on the Department’s behalf.

After seeing the Amber Alert, Perry stopped at a fire station in Prince George’s County and turned himself into officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD). The two children were not with Perry, but he provided their locations to investigators.  One child was at a day-care facility and the other child was at a family member’s home, both locations were in Prince George’s County.  MCP detectives and PGPD officers subsequently located the two children safe and unharmed.

During a police interview, Perry admitted to stabbing the victim.  Perry was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with one count of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree assault.  He is currently being held without bond.

MCP thanks the Prince George’s County Police Department, the Maryland State Police, The Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management for their assistance in helping to locate the two children.  MCP also thanks the public and media for sharing the Amber Alert information.
