Suspect Arrested for Stabbing Assault in Silver Spring

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 18, 2018

On Tuesday, July 17 at approximately 5:41 p.m., 3rd District officers were dispatched to the 8500 block of Fenton Street for the report of a stabbing that had just occurred.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel were already in the area for a report of the odor of gas. Firefighters were able to provide a description to police of the suspect and a woman with whom he was walking, and the direction they were last seen travelling on foot.

Fire and Rescue responders provided treatment to the victim, a 24-year-old male, suffering from an apparent stab wound to the chest. He was transported to an area hospital for further treatment, and is currently in stable condition.

Third District officers were able to locate the suspect and the female and take them into custody. Through the course of the investigation it was learned that the male suspect and victim (who did not know one another), got into a verbal altercation as they walked on Ellsworth Drive. When they were in the 8600 block of Fenton Street, the male suspect stabbed the victim. The motive for the assault has not yet been confirmed.

Jonathan (Jo'Nathan) S. Worth, age 24, from the 8100 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to injure, and reckless endangerment.  After investigation, the female with Worth was determined not to be involved in the assault and was released without charges.

Worth is currently being held without bond.
