Fraud Suspect Purchases Items Totaling over $15,000 with Victim’s Stolen Credit Card; Surveillance Photograph Released

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, August 28, 2018

Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department – 2nd District are releasing a surveillance photograph of a suspect who charged over $15,000 worth of jewelry to a resident’s stolen credit card and are asking for the public’s help to identify him.

The investigation determined that on Sunday, August 5, the adult male victim was at the Lakewood Country Club located at 13901 Glen Mill Road in Rockville when his wallet was stolen.  The victim was not aware of the theft until he received a call from his bank later that afternoon.  He was notified by his bank that a large credit card purchase was made at Jared The Galleria of Jewelry store located at 12101 Rockville Pike in Rockville.

The investigation further determined that the suspect fraudulently purchased over $15,000 worth of jewelry and then attempted to use the victim’s credit card to purchase over $1,100 worth of merchandise at the Home Depot store located at 21010 Frederick Road in Germantown.  The transaction at the Home Depot store was declined by the victim’s bank.

Anyone with information about this suspect is asked to call 2nd District officers at 240-773-6747 or Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case.  To be eligible for a reward, tipsters must call Crime Solvers.  Callers may remain anonymous.
