For Immediate Release: Tuesday, September 25, 2018

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 4th District Investigate Section have arrested and charged Thomas M. Hill, age 21, of the 18700 block of Brooke Road in Sandy Spring, for committing a series of occupied, nighttime residential burglaries in the Ashton-Sandy Spring and Colesville areas.  Hill was also charged with the attempted rape and attempted sexual offense of a 12-year-old female who was in her bed at the time of one of the burglaries.

Hill was charged with the following burglaries:

  • Thursday, September 20 at approximately 2:00 a.m., 4th District officers responded to a home in the 800 block of Llewellyn Manor Drive for a residential burglary that had just occurred.  The investigation determined that the homeowner was awakened by his/her dog barking and discovered that a suspect had forced entry into the home and had stolen property. During the investigation, responding officers observed a fresh stain on the victim’s driveway that was indicative of a vehicle leaking antifreeze.
  • Friday, September 21 at approximately 1:11 a.m., 4th District officers responded to a residential burglary that had just occurred in the 17700 block of Tree Lawn Drive. The investigation determined that the homeowner had awoke and went downstairs to get a drink of water.  He discovered that someone had forced entry into the residence and had stolen property.  Responding officers observed a fresh stain on the victim’s driveway that was similar to the stain that was observed during the previous burglary investigation.
  • Saturday, September 22 at approximately 3:50 a.m., 4th District officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Norwood Road for an attempted burglary that had just occurred.  The investigation determined that the homeowner had heard a noise outside the residence.  He then observed that entry had been attempted into the home and noticed a vehicle leaving the area.  During the investigation, officers observed a fresh stain on the victim’s driveway that appeared to be antifreeze.
A few minutes after the 9-1-1 call was received regarding the burglary on Norwood Road, 4th District officers responded to a call at a home on Carlisle Drive in the Colesville area for a residential burglary that had just occurred.  The investigation revealed that the homeowner heard his juvenile daughter scream from an adjacent room, and he then heard a door slam and a vehicle leave the area.  The suspect forced entry into the home and attempted to sexually assault a juvenile female in her bedroom.  The suspect also stole property from the home.  During the investigation, officers observed a fresh stain on the victim’s driveway which was similar to the stains observed on the driveways of the homes previously burglarized in the area.   A dark-colored Chevy Tahoe was observed parked on the street near the victim’s home, prior to the burglary.

At approximately 4:34 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, officers patrolling the area of the Norwood Road burglary for a possible suspect, observed a dark-colored Chevy Tahoe traveling northbound on New Hampshire Avenue near Crystal Spring Drive.  Officers initiated a traffic stop on the Tahoe and identified the driver and sole occupant as Hill.  During the traffic stop, officers located property on Hill which was determined to have come from the Carlisle Drive burglary and observed that Hill’s Tahoe was leaking antifreeze.

Hill was arrested and transported to the 4th District station. During a police interview, Hill made statements admitting to his involvement in the Carlisle Drive, Tree Lawn Drive, and Llewellyn Manor Drive burglaries.  Hill also made statements regarding his attempted assault against the juvenile female.

Hill was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with three counts of first-degree burglary, one count of attempted first-degree burglary, one count of attempted first-degree rape, and one count of attempted third-degree sexual offense.  Hill is currently being held without bond.
