Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a serious collision involving a motor scooter that occurred last night just before midnight. The passenger on the motor scooter was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On Monday, October 1, at approximately 11:42 p.m., 4th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Veirs Mill Road at Aspen Hill Road for the report of a collision involving a motor scooter and a vehicle.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the operator of a Zummer 50cc motor scooter was traveling east on Veirs Mill Road. The driver of a 2018 Toyota iM was also traveling east on Veirs Mill Road and struck the motor scooter from behind.
The operator of the motor scooter, identified as Fredis Del Cid, age 28, of Twinbrook Parkway in Rockville, and the passenger on the motor scooter, Maria Delmis Lemus-Nolasco, age 24, of Epping Road in Silver Spring, were transported to a local hospital. Del Cid is in stable condition at the hospital. As stated previously, Lemus-Nolasco is suffering from life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as Roberto Carlos Castellon, age 21, of Amherst Avenue in Silver Spring, and the two passengers in the vehicle, were not injured in the collision.
