For Immediate Release: Wednesday, October 10, 2018

Last night at approximately 8:46 p.m., 3rd District officers were dispatched to the 7900 block of Georgia Avenue for the report of a large group of disorderly subjects and a possible assault.

Officers responded to the area and located some of the involved persons.  One person was located in the 8000 block of Georgia Avenue.  Four officers were at that location and had parked their marked cruisers in close proximity to them as they spoke to the person about the call for service.  Some of the cruisers had their overhead emergency lights activated.  During this interview, at approximately 9:21 p.m., the officers heard a loud pinging noise in the area of the police cruisers.  Soon after, officers heard an additional two to three pinging noises in the area of the cars.  For their safety, officers left the immediate area.

Officers inspected their vehicles and one officer located a small dent on the front passenger door of his car.  The dent was indicative of a pellet-type projectile.
