Detectives Investigate Kensington 7-Eleven Attempted Armed Robbery; Surveillance Video Released

For Immediate Release: Thursday, October 11, 2018

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the October 9 attempted armed robbery of a convenience store in Kensington.  Today, investigators are releasing surveillance video of the female suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying her.

On Tuesday, October 9 at approximately 3:45 a.m., 2nd District officers responded to the 7-Eleven located at 3507 University Boulevard West for the report of an attempted armed robbery that had just occurred.

The investigation by detectives revealed that an adult male employee was behind the counter when the Hispanic female suspect entered the store.  The suspect, who was holding a handgun inside a plastic bag, announced the robbery and demanded cash from the registers.  During the robbery, an additional adult male employee who was working in the store approached the suspect from behind and grabbed the handgun out of the suspect’s hand.  One employee immediately called 9-1-1 while the other employee struggled with the suspect who was attempting to get back the gun. The suspect fled from the 7-Eleven without obtaining any property.   Detectives recovered the suspect’s weapon at the scene which was found to be a replica handgun.

Based on this suspect’s description, detectives believe that on Monday, October 8 at approximately 4:00 a.m., this same suspect, displaying a handgun, attempted to rob a taxi driver in the 4000 block of Sampson Road in the Veirs Mill Village area.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect or these crimes is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5100.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case.
