Detectives Investigate Armed Carjacking and Robbery of Uber Driver

For Immediate Release: Saturday, October 20, 2018

Detectives with the Major Crimes Division - Robbery Section continue to investigate the armed robbery of an Uber driver and the carjacking of his vehicle that occurred on October 19 at approximately 5:00 p.m.

On Friday, October 19, at approximately 5:20 p.m., officers from the 2nd District responded to the area of Seven Locks Road and Tuckerman Lane for the report of an armed car jacking.  First responders met the 30-year-old victim who explained he was working as an Uber driver when he was robbed and his vehicle was stolen from him.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the Uber driver responded to a request for a fare in the area of Tildenwood Drive and Montrose Road via the Uber app.  At that location the driver picked up four African American males.  Shortly thereafter, the suspects requested that the Uber driver pull over because they wanted to change their destination.  As the driver pulled over, the front seat passenger produced a handgun and announced a robbery.

The suspects demanded that the driver turn off the engine, get out of the car, and empty his pockets.  The suspects took the victim's wallet and his phone and then fled in his vehicle.

The Uber driver flagged down a passing motorist for assistance.  The motorist drove the Uber driver a short distance in an effort to locate the suspects and/or the stolen vehicle but they were unsuccessful.  The Uber driver then called 9-1-1.

The victim described the four suspects as African American males in their 20s.

The victim's vehicle is a black, 2017 Honda Civic bearing Maryland tags, 6CP2924.  At this time, the vehicle has not been located.

Anyone with information about this armed robbery and armed carjacking is urged to contact detectives at (240) 773 - 5070.
