Detectives Investigate Serious Collision Involving Bicyclist and Police Vehicle in 2nd District

Update: November 21, 2018: The bicyclist is being identified as Donald Price, age 53, of the 4000 block of Jones Bridge Road in Bethesda.

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a personal injury collision that occurred last night in Bethesda involving a bicyclist.

On Friday, November 16, 2018, at approximately 11:10 p.m., officers from the 2nd District along with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services personnel responded to Connecticut Avenue at Jones Bridge Road for a collision involving a Montgomery County marked Police vehicle and a bicyclist.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 Ford Interceptor, driven by Officer James O'Rourke, was traveling southbound on Connecticut Avenue when it struck a bicycle, operated by an adult male. Officer O'Rourke was assigned a routine call for service and did not have his emergency equipment activated at the time of the collision.  The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. Officer O'Rourke was not injured.

The bicyclist will be identified once appropriate notifications have been made.
