For Immediate Release: Monday, December 3, 2018

Detectives from the 1st District Investigative Section continue to investigate a theft and first-degree assault of an employee that occurred at a grocery store in Rockville.  Today, investigators are releasing photographs of the suspect and are asking for the public's help to identify him.

On October 17 at approximately 1:00 p.m., a loss prevention employee at the Safeway store located at 1800 Rockville Pike observed a suspect take items from a store shelf and place the items in his book bag.  As the suspect left the store without paying for the items, the employee confronted the suspect.  During the exchange, the suspect produced a knife from a rear pant pocket and pointed it at the employee's chest.  The suspect fled from the store and boarded a Metro train at the Twinbrook Metro Station.

Anyone with information about this theft and first-degree assault and/or the suspect involved is asked to call the 1st District Investigative Section at 240-773-6084.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case.
