Suspect Armed with Knife Arrested at Gaithersburg Restaurant; Investigators Seek Additional Witnesses

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, December 5, 2018

Officers from the Montgomery County Police Department’s 6th District have arrested and charged Adonias Gomez, age 61, of the 100 block of Girard Street in Gaithersburg, with first-degree assault and disorderly conduct after he was observed brandishing a knife at customers inside of a Wendy’s restaurant in Gaithersburg.

On Monday, December 3 at approximately 4:52 p.m., 6th District officers responded to the Wendy’s restaurant located at 18350 Contour Road for the report of a subject who was armed with a knife and threatening customers.

Responding officers observed Gomez outside of the Wendy’s drive-thru area holding a large knife with blood on it in his hand.  Gomez refused to comply with all the orders given by the officers.  Officers deployed a Taser and Gomez was taken into custody.

Gomez was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and endangering the public safety while being intoxicated. Gomez is being held on a $10,000 bond.

Officers interviewed employees and patrons who were inside the Wendy’s when Gomez entered the restaurant armed with a knife.  Gomez was observed by restaurant employees chasing and threatening a patron, who is described as a high-school aged African American male.  Officers have been unable to identify this witness.  Officers are asking for that witness and anyone else who may have been threatened by Gomez or who may have witnessed this event to contact 6th District officers at 240-773-5770.
