Detectives Investigate Serious Pedestrian Collision with Police Vehicle in Wheaton

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a collision between a Montgomery County Police vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred in Wheaton this evening.

On Thursday, December 6, 2018, at approximately 9:27 p.m., officers from the 4th District along with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services personnel responded to Georgia Avenue in the area of Blueridge Avenue for a pedestrian collision involving a marked, Montgomery County Police vehicle.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 Ford Taurus, marked police vehicle, was traveling southbound on Georgia Avenue in the area of Blueridge Avenue when it became involved in a collision with an adult male pedestrian in the roadway.  The officer driving the police vehicle was not responding to an emergency incident and did not have their emergency equipment activated at the time of the collision.  The pedestrian was not within a crosswalk at the time of the collision.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.  The officer driving the police vehicle was not injured.
