Police Investigate Reported Suspicious Situation in Lyttonsville Area of Silver Spring

The Montgomery County Police Department - Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) is investigating the report of a suspicious situation in the Lyttonsville area of Silver Spring. On Friday, December 7, at approximately 6:23 p.m., officers responded to the area of Lyttonsville Road and Grubb Road for the report of a suspicious situation.

Officers spoke with an eight-year-old male who stated that on that day, he had exited the school bus in the area of Lyttonsville Road and Grubb Road (at approximately 4:00 p.m.).  Shortly after, a vehicle, described as a light gray four-door sedan, approached him and stopped in the roadway.  A man, described as having a dark complexion, approximately 40 years old, and wearing black jeans and a gray jacket, told him to get in the vehicle.  The man then grabbed his shirt.  He was able to break free from the man's grip.  The child stated that the man then displayed a gun that was in his waistband.  The child then ran to his home.

Investigators have reinterviewed the child and at this time, details remain unconfirmed about this incident.  Detectives have interviewed persons who live and work in the area and no one has observed suspicious activity like that described.

Investigators continue to collect information and the Police Department has increased patrols in the area.  Police are asking anyone with information about this incident or any previous activity that might relate to this incident to please call detectives at 240-773-5400.  The Department continues to urge anyone who observes suspicious behavior to call police.
