Detectives Investigate Theft and Assault at Home Depot in Aspen Hill; Surveillance Photograph Released

For Immediate Release: Thursday, December 13, 2018

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division continue to investigate a theft and the assault of two employees of a Home Depot store that occurred in Aspen Hill.  Today, investigators are releasing a surveillance photograph of the suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

On Sunday, December 2, at approximately 3:40 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the Home Depot store located at 14000 Georgia Avenue for the report of a theft and an assault that had just occurred.

The investigation by detectives reveled that the suspect stole a large spool of copper wire from the store and then concealed the spool near a tree line close to the store.  After concealing the wire, the suspect left to retrieve his vehicle which was parked nearby.  Two employees, one of whom had watched the suspect conceal the spool of wire, attempted to retrieve the spool while the suspect was gone.  The suspect returned, threatened the employees with a knife, and stated “that’s mine”.   The suspect loaded the stolen spool of wire into a black, Toyota RAV4 and fled the area.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect or this theft and first-degree assault is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5100.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case.
