Detectives Investigate Derwood Bank Robbery; Surveillance Video and Photographs of Suspect and Getaway Vehicle Released

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating the robbery of a Bank of America that occurred yesterday morning in Derwood.  Detectives are releasing surveillance video and photographs of the suspect and his getaway vehicle and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

On Thursday, January 24, at approximately 10:18 a.m., 6th District officers responded to the Bank of America located at 17501 Redland Road for the report of a robbery.  The investigation by detectives revealed that the suspect approached a teller, displayed a handgun, and demanded money.  He obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled from the bank.

Investigators obtained surveillance video from a nearby neighborhood which shows the suspect leaving the area in a white GMC U-Haul van with distinctive graphics and wording.

Anyone with information about the suspect or this bank robbery is asked to contact the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5100.  To be eligible for a reward, tipsters may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of this suspect.  Tipsters will remain anonymous.
