Detectives Investigate Serious Multi-Vehicle Collision in Aspen Hill Area

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a serious multi-vehicle collision that occurred late last night in the Aspen Hill area.

Preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that on Tuesday, February 26, at approximately 11:40 p.m., a 2018 Honda Accord and a 1999 Ford Windstar were stopped for the red traffic signal on northbound Georgia Avenue at Bel Pre Road when, for reasons still under investigation, they were both struck by a 2018 Honda CRV which was travelling northbound on Georgia Avenue approaching Bel Pre Road. As a result of that collision, the Ford Windstar caught fire.

A 4th District officer who was conducting a traffic stop in the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue near Bel Pre Road heard the collision and observed the Windstar on fire. The officer responded to the collision and utilized a fire extinguisher from his police vehicle to extinguish the fire. The officer then removed the adult female driver from her vehicle. Fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene and transported her to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The adult female driver of the Honda Accord and an adult male passenger were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The adult female driver of the Honda CRV was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.
