Detectives Investigate Armed Robbery and Assault as a Hate Crime

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section are investigating an armed robbery and assault committed by two suspects who appeared to target the victim based on the victim's perceived sexual orientation.

On the evening of February 28, at approximately 10:17 pm, the victim was walking in the area of the 900 block of Navahoe Drive in Silver Spring.  Two suspects confronted the victim and demanded the victim's money and belongings, referring to the victim using a slur referencing the perceived sexual orientation of the victim.  The two suspects proceeded to assault the victim then take the victim's belongings.  The suspects then fled in an unknown direction.  The victim subsequently received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspects are both described as black males, wearing black ski masks, blue or black shoes, dark pants and black hooded jackets.

This incident is being investigated as a hate crime.
