On April 18, 2019, the Montgomery County Department of Police announced the passing of Officer Kyle Olinger.  The department was informed by authorities from the State of Arizona that Officer Olinger's death was ruled a homicide as a result of the gunshot wound he received in August of 2003 while performing his duties as a Montgomery County Police Officer.

In the early morning hours of August 13, 2003, Olinger was on patrol in downtown Silver Spring when he performed a traffic stop on a car containing three subjects.  During the traffic stop, one of the suspects shot Olinger in the neck, paralyzing him from the waist down.  The suspects were arrested the same night by other officers.

Due to his injuries, Olinger retired, but continued to remain involved with the department.  He will always be remembered as a vigilant police officer with an impeccable work ethic, serving the communities of Montgomery County honorably.

His brothers and sisters on the department, his family, and the community, mourn the loss of a great person, genuine friend, and all-around exemplary police officer.

Officer Kyle Olinger is the 19th officer for the Montgomery County Department of Police to lose their life in the performance of their duties protecting the people of Montgomery County.  His sacrifice to serve and protect the people and communities of Montgomery County will not be forgotten.
