Police Investigate Homicide in Kensington; Suspect Arrested

The Montgomery County Department of Police - Major Crimes Division continues to investigate a homicide that occurred last night in Kensington.

On Tuesday, June 18th at approximately 9:59 pm, the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call reporting a shooting that had just occurred at 10724 Shaftsbury Street in Kensington.  Officers from the 2nd District responded to the scene and verified a shooting had occurred with an adult female victim being deceased on the scene.  Officers were able to make an arrest of an adult male suspect who remained on the scene.  Additionally, a handgun was found on the scene in close proximity to the victim.

The investigation to this point has revealed that the victim, Silvia Elenia Fernandez, age 33, was living at the Shaftsbury Street address in a basement apartment with the suspect, Alejandro Jose Perez de Leon, age 48.  The two were in a domestic relationship.

At some point on June 18th, Fernandez and Perez de Leon were engaged in a domestic related argument when Perez de Leon shot Fernandez, killing her.

Perez de Leon was arrested on the scene and subsequently taken to the Central Processing Unit for booking after being interviewed by detectives from the Major Crimes Division.

Perez de Leon has been charged with 1st Degree Murder.  He is being held without bond.
