Oxon Hill Man Charged After Assault and Leading Officers on a Pursuit

For Immediate Release: Saturday, June 22, 2019

Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police - 4th District have arrested and charged an Oxon Hill man yesterday after he assaulted officers, committed several thefts, fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, and rammed police vehicles.

On June 21, 2019, around 1:27 pm, officers were dispatched to the KMART located at 14014 Connecticut Avenue for the report of a shoplifter who had stolen several items then fled the scene in a Chevrolet Express van.  A lookout was broadcast for the suspect and the Chevrolet Express van.  A records check of the van came back as reported stolen out of Washington, DC.

Shortly after the first incident, another shoplifting call was dispatched to the CVS located at 12359 Georgia Avenue.  A description of the same suspect was provided, including the fact that he had fled the scene in the same stolen Chevrolet van.  The van was last seen heading southbound on Georgia Avenue.

Around 1:59 pm, plainclothes officers assigned to the 4th District Special Assignment Team (SAT) spotted the stolen van southbound on Georgia Avenue.  The driver matched the description provided in both prior events.

When the stolen van was stopped at the traffic signal of southbound Georgia Avenue at Forest Glen Road, the SAT officers attempted to stop the stolen van and arrest the suspect.  The suspect ignored the commands of the officers and rammed two police vehicles driven by the officers.  The stolen van then proceeded through the intersection striking a Volkswagon GTI then proceeding southbound on Georgia Avenue.  Additional officers assisted the driver of the GTI who was treated by MCFRS on the scene for minor injuries.

The stolen van then proceeded onto the 495 exit ramp going the wrong way then proceeded on eastbound 495 heading towards Prince George's County.  The stolen van was driving on the right shoulder until it hit a large area of standing water causing the suspect to lose control and swerve into the main lanes of 495 striking a Tesla X just prior to University Boulevard East.  The suspect was taken into custody by officers as he attempted to exit the stolen van and flee on foot.  The driver and passenger of the Tesla X were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect arrested is identified as Alfred J. Reeves, age 48, of the 5100 block of Deal Drive in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Reeves has been charged with 1st Degree Assault (2 counts), 2nd Degree Assault (2 counts), Motor Vehicle Theft, Larceny, Destruction of Property, and several traffic violations.
