Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the armed carjacking and kidnapping of three juveniles that occurred yesterday in the Piney Branch area of Silver Spring. Detectives are releasing surveillance photographs of the suspect and are asking anyone with information about this crime and/or suspect to come forward to police.
Investigation has determined that yesterday (Thursday, July 18) at approximately 2:00 p.m., a woman parked her car and accompanied by her daughter, entered the Capital One Bank located at 8740 Arliss Street. Three additional family members: a two-year-old female, a nine-year old male, and a 15-year old female, remained in the back seat of the vehicle. The suspect entered the vehicle and began driving out of the parking lot. (The car was running and the keys were in the ignition). The 15-year-old female victim observed what appeared to be a black handgun in the suspect's pocket. The suspect drove to an apartment complex parking lot located in the 8600 block of Piney Branch Road. He told the oldest victim to give him money and she complied. The suspect let the children out of the vehicle and then fled from the area in the stolen vehicle. The victims were not injured during the incident.
The stolen vehicle, a blue 2011 Ford Escape with Maryland tags: 2DD3455, has not been located.
The suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet tall, with a slim build. He was approximately 20 years old, with facial hair that included a mustache and beard. His hair was in twists. He was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans and a black and gray backpack.
