Detectives Investigate Two Commercial Burglaries Believed to be Committed by Same Suspect; Surveillance Video Released

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, July 23, 2019

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - 2nd and 3rd District Investigative Sections continue to investigate two commercial burglaries that detectives believe were committed by the same suspect(s).  Because it is also believed that this same suspect(s) committed a commercial burglary in Bowie, Maryland, the Montgomery County Department of Police is coordinating this investigation with The City of Bowie Police Department.

Today, detectives are releasing surveillance video and photographs of a suspect and the getaway vehicle and are asking anyone with information about these burglaries and/or the suspect(s) involved to come forward to police.

Summaries of the two Montgomery County burglaries follow:

  • On July 4, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a light-colored SUV backed up to the front door of the Exxon gas station located at 6100 Macarthur Boulevard in Bethesda.  A suspect exited the vehicle's driver's door.  Using an unknown object, the suspect smashed the glass door of the Exxon to gain entry.  The suspect looked around the store and left without removing any items.  The suspect is described as a black male wearing all black clothing, a covering over his face, and gloves.
  • On July 7, at approximately 4:24 a.m., a light-colored SUV backed up to the front door of the Spicy America international grocery store located at 11409 Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring.  A suspect exited the front passenger side of the vehicle and using an unknown object, smashed the glass door.  The suspect removed a cash register from the business.  The suspect and vehicle appears to be the same as seen in the July 4 burglary. Surveillance video reveals that a second suspect was driving the getaway vehicle.
As stated previously, The City of Bowie Police Department is investigating a commercial burglary that is believed to have been committed by this same suspect(s).  Information about that investigation can be found in the flyer at the end of this release.

Anyone with information regarding these burglaries or suspects involved is asked to call the 3rd District Investigative Section at 240-773-6870.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case.
