Detectives Ask For Public's Help in Locating Wanted Assault and Robbery Suspect

For Immediate Release: Friday, August 16, 2019

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 4th District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s help in locating a wanted suspect: Raul Martinez - Rodriguez, age 43.

Detectives have obtained a warrant for Martinez-Rodriguez' arrest for the assault of a 79-year-old man that occurred on August 12 at the victim's residence on Arctic Avenue in the Aspen Hill area.  The warrant charges Martinez-Rodriguez with robbery, first-degree assault, and vehicle theft.

On Monday, August 12, at approximately 3:00 p.m., 4th District officers responded to a residence in the 13800 block of Arctic Avenue.  Officers learned that the victim's son had come home to find his father unresponsive in the basement, suffering from serious injuries sustained during an assault.  The victim was transported to a local hospital.

The investigation by detectives determined that the victim and the suspect, Martinez-Rodriguez, had an agreement; Martinez-Rodriguez would live in the victim's home and in exchange would complete renovations to the home.  On August 12, a witness heard the victim and Martinez-Rodriguez become involved in a verbal dispute about the terms of the agreement. Investigators believe that Martinez-Rodriguez assaulted the victim as a result of this disagreement.  After assaulting the victim, Martinez-Rodriguez fled the residence with the victim's vehicle, cellular phone, and wallet containing cash.  There is no evidence at this time that this was a hate-motivated crime.

The victim's vehicle and cellular phone were recovered on northbound Route 15 prior to Monocacy Boulevard in Frederick County, Maryland, in the evening of August 12.

Martinez-Rodriguez is described as a Hispanic male who is 5'05" tall and weighs 140 pounds.  He has black hair, brown eyes, and facial hair.

Martinez-Rodriguez is known to frequent the Montgomery Village area and has possible ties to Frederick, Maryland.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Raul Martinez - Rodriguez  to please call the Montgomery County Police Department’s non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.  Callers can remain anonymous.
