Detectives Investigate Burglary to Islamic Center in Burtonsville; Surveillance Video of Suspect Released

For Immediate Release: Thursday, September 5, 2019

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section continue to investigate the August 12 burglary of the Idara Jaferia Islamic Center located at 3140 Spencerville Road in Burtonsville.  Today, detectives are releasing surveillance video of the male suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

The investigation by detectives determined that on August 12 at approximately 11:30 p.m., a building caretaker for the Idara Jaferia Islamic Center was checking on the building when he discovered that the donation locker inside the building had been broken into.  A review of the center’s surveillance video revealed that at approximately 7:45 p.m. that evening, the male suspect entered the building by using a ladder to climb into an open second-floor window.  Once inside the center, the suspect pried open the donation locker, stole currency, and fled.

Anyone who recognizes this suspect or has information about this burglary is asked to contact the 3rd District Investigative Section at 240-773-6870.  To be eligible for a reward, tipsters may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or enter a tip online. Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment of the suspects.  Tipsters may remain anonymous.
