Two Suspects in Germantown Carjacking Arrested in North Carolina

For Immediate Release: Monday, September 16, 2019

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have charged Kenneth Darnell Davis, age 18, of an unconfirmed address, with carjacking and assault offenses for the September 6th carjacking that occurred in front of a convenience store in Germantown.   Detectives have also charged 16-year-old Kimberly Morales of Montgomery Village as an adult with carjacking and assault offenses related to this incident.

The investigation by detectives determined that on Friday, September 6^th, at approximately 1:15 a.m., the adult male victim parked his vehicle in front of the 7-Eleven convenience store located at 19700 Frederick Road.  After parking, the victim left his vehicle unlocked and running while he entered the store to make a purchase.  While standing in line for the registers, the victim observed a male suspect enter the driver’s side of his vehicle and a female suspect enter the rear seat area of his vehicle.   After seeing this, the victim ran outside, opened the passenger door to his vehicle and attempted to remove the suspects.  After being confronted by the victim, the male suspect who was in the driver’s seat of the victim’s car backed the vehicle out the parking space at a high rate of speed.  The victim was struck by the open passenger-side door of his car and thrown to the pavement as the suspect back out of the parking space and fled in the victim’s car from the area.    Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the 7-Eleven and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

During the initial investigation, detectives entered the victim’s vehicle into a national law enforcement database as being stolen from Montgomery County.   The next morning (Saturday, September 7^th), at approximately 10:06 a.m., MCP detectives were contacted by officers from the Hope Mills Police Department in North Carolina who stated that they had located the carjacked vehicle from Montgomery County at a convenience store in Hope Mills.   The Hope Mills officers further stated that a male and female suspect, now identified as Kenneth Davis and Kimberly Morales, were found in the stolen car and were now in custody.   Further investigation by MCP detectives determined that Davis and Morales were the same suspects who committed the September 6^th carjacking in Germantown.

MCP detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Davis charging him with carjacking, first-degree assault, and conspiracy to commit carjacking.  MCP detectives also obtained an arrest warrant for Morales, charging her as an adult with carjacking, first-degree assault, and conspiracy to commit carjacking.  Davis and Morales remain in custody in North Carolina pending extradition to Montgomery County.
