An officer from the Montgomery County Department of Police - Alcohol Initiatives Unit (AIU) has arrested and charged Kenneth Buckner, age 30, of Madison Street, NW, in Washington, D.C., with crimes to include drug possession and firearm-related offenses.

On Friday, September 27, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the AIU officer was on routine patrol and conducting traffic enforcement when he observed the driver of a vehicle, later identified as Buckner, commit a traffic violation at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road in Silver Spring.  The officer initiated a traffic stop and while speaking with Buckner about the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, Buckner accelerated and drove off at a high rate of speed.  Buckner then violated numerous traffic laws to include driving through two red lights.  He threw an unknown object out of the passenger window of the car on Cameron Street.  Buckner stopped his vehicle on Spring Street at Cameron Street and was arrested.

Officers recovered the loaded handgun that Buckner had thrown from the vehicle.

Officers conducted a search of the inside of the vehicle and located suspected marijuana.

Records indicate that the gun is registered to Buckner.

Buckner was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with offenses to include possession of a loaded handgun in a vehicle, reckless endangerment, and possession of marijuana.  He has been released on bond.
