Suspect Charged with Series of Thefts from Vehicles in Montgomery County

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 4th District Patrol Investigations Unit have been investigating a series of thefts from vehicles that occurred during the summer.  During the investigation, detectives identified and charged Justin Andrew Wilson, age 25, of the 3300 block of Niles Street in Silver Spring, with theft offenses related to thefts from vehicles that occurred in separate neighborhoods throughout Montgomery County.

Through investigation, it was determined that Wilson committed the following thefts from vehicles:

  • July 28th – The victim reported to police that a suspect had stolen property, which included credit cards, from his vehicle which had been parked on East Jefferson Street in Rockville. Wilson was later identified as the suspect in this theft and was subsequently charged with theft and credit card fraud-related offenses.
  • August 21st - 5th District officers responded to a residence on Quail Woods Drive for the report of a theft from a vehicle. During this investigation, detectives identified Wilson as the suspect and recovered property in his residence that was determined to have been stolen during this theft.   On August 29th, detectives arrested and charged Wilson for this theft.  He was released after posting a $3,000 bond.
  • September 19th at approximately 4:05 a.m., 4th District officers observed a suspect breaking into an unlocked vehicle on Marianna Drive in Aspen Hill.  The suspect fled the area but responding officers recognized Wilson as the suspect.  Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Wilson related to this theft.
On September 24th, Wilson was arrested on the strength of the Montgomery County warrant charging him with theft-related offenses for the September 19th theft.  He is currently being held without bond.

Thefts from unlocked vehicles continue to be a high-volume crime in Montgomery County. The Police Department urges all residents to take a role in preventing this type of crime by removing valuables from vehicles and locking all doors.
