Four Suspects Charged in Series of Auto Thefts and Thefts from Vehicles Throughout Montgomery County

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, October 8, 2019

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Central Auto Theft Section and the 2nd and 4th District Patrol Investigations Units have charged three suspects for committing a series of auto thefts and thefts from vehicles between May and August in Montgomery County and a fourth suspect for his involvement in the theft from vehicles.

Detectives have charged:

  • Khristian Markeel Champ, age 20, of the 1400 block of Morris Road in Southeast, Washington, D.C.
  • Alaunte Scott, age 18, of the 1500 block of Newton Street in Northwest, Washington, D.C.
  • Christopher Taylor, age 19, of the 1400 block of S Street in Southeast,      Washington, D.C.
with auto theft and theft from vehicle-related offenses.

Detectives have also charged:

  • Duan Jones, age 20, of the 2100 block of Ridge Crest Court in Southeast, Washington, D.C.
with theft from vehicle.

Investigators believe that between May and August, Champ, Jones, Scott, and Taylor stole approximately 30 vehicles and committed approximately 100 thefts from vehicles throughout the County.

During this investigation, MCP detectives working in coordination with Metropolitan Police Department officers, located multiple vehicles in Washington, D.C. that had been reported as stolen from Montgomery County. Investigators identified the four suspects and determined that they were working together to commit a series of auto thefts and thefts from vehicles in the County.

On September 18, Jones was arrested on the strength of a Montgomery County arrest warrant charging him with theft from vehicle-related offenses. Jones was released after posting a $2,500 bond.

On September 27, A district court summons was issued for Scott charging him with auto theft and theft from vehicle-related offenses.

On September 30, Champ was arrested on the strength of a Montgomery County arrest warrant charging him with auto theft and theft from vehicle-related offenses. Champ was released after posting a $7,500 bond.

On October 1, Taylor was arrested on the strength of a Montgomery County arrest warrant charging him with auto theft and theft from vehicle-related offenses. Taylor was released after posting a $7,500 bond.
