Officers Arrest Wanted Suspect After Foot Pursuit in White Oak; Suspect in Possession of Loaded Handgun

For Immediate Release: Thursday, October 10, 2019

Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police-3rd District Special Assignment Team (SAT) have arrested and charged Foday Gassama, age 28, of Purple Mountain Lane in Gaithersburg, with possession of a loaded handgun on his person, obliterating a serial number on a firearm, and the prohibited possession of a firearm due to a previous criminal conviction.

On Tuesday, October 8, at approximately 6:00 p.m., 3rd District SAT officers were monitoring the White Oak area of Silver Spring when an officer observed a person he believed to be Gassama walking on the sidewalk of Lockwood Drive. The officer knew that Gassama had a Montgomery County warrant for his arrest for second-degree assault and fourth-degree burglary.  Those charges stemmed from an incident that had occurred on October 4 in Silver Spring and was domestic-related.  During that incident, it was believed that Gassama had a firearm in his possession.

The officer approached Gassama in the 1500 block of Heather Hollow Circle.  When the officer told Gassama he was under arrest, he ran.  After a brief foot pursuit, he was taken into custody.

While searching Gassama, an officer located a loaded handgun in a satchel he was wearing across his shirt.  The serial number on the gun had been obliterated.

It was determined that Gassama is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to prior criminal convictions.

Gassama was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.
