Aggressive Panhandler Robs Victim in Bethesda; Surveillance Video Released

Detectives from the 2nd District Investigative Section are investigating the robbery of an adult female that occurred in the area of Commerce Lane and Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda on September 5.  The Police Department is releasing video surveillance of the suspect and is asking anyone with information to come forward to police.

On Thursday, September 5, at approximately 8:35 p.m., the victim was walking on the sidewalk of Commerce Lane toward Old Georgetown Road when she was approached by the suspect.  The suspect, who identified himself as "Raisin," asked her for money. When the victim stated that she had none, the suspect became threatening and the victim gave him her Metro SmarTrip (fare) card.  The suspect then stated that the card better have money on it or he would "beat her [the victim] up" next time he saw her.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to call the 2nd District Investigative Section at 240-773-6710.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case.
